The notation above will be published in April 2013 as part of a new book titled The Cape Breton Scottish Collection. This setting is a transcription based on a 1950s home recording of the late Mary Hughie MacDonald of New Waterford. She adapted what she learned from an old book titled The Beauties of Niel Gow.

When contemporary fiddler Kenneth MacKenzie of Mabou learned the tune from a tape of Mary he transposed her setting into Eminor and recorded it that way on his CD Piob is Fidheal (Em sound clip)

In Victoria County the tune is often called The King’s Lament. Michael Anthony Maclean (A minor Sound clip) plays that setting .
