Fiddler Lisa MacArthur learned this tune from a tape of the late John Morris Rankin. He interpreded it as a waltz. It's a favourite of Margaree fiddler Cameron Chisholm. He had heard it from Scottish piper Sandy Boyd.
In the mid 20th centruy Pipe major Donald MacLeod produced a series of 5 books. His most famous tune, Crossing the Minch is sometimes known as McNabbs Hornpipe. Sandy brought that tune to Cape Breton as well. He had learned it from a Pipe Major MacNabb of Glasgow.
