This music is a scan of a page from O'Neill's Music of Ireland. Better known as Maggie Brown's Jig in Cape Breton it is a popular square dance tune with the common source being Ryan's Mammoth Collection

Although the O’Neill book has this tune in the Carolan section it seems likely that the O’Neill's copied it from Ryan’s Mammoth Collection ... and Ryan's changed the title given by Nathaniel Gow. Gow claimed to have composed the tune. He called it Miss Margret Brown's Favourite. It first appeared in 1792 in Gow's 3rd.

The O’Neill's were know to take tunes that they assumed to be Irish and then alter titles to suit their tradition.
